Marlow Valley Vineyard: A Milestone Moment in Buckinghamshire’s Winemaking Journey

The 10th of October 2024 was a landmark day for Marlow Valley Vineyard, the family-owned venture that has become a cherished part of Buckinghamshire’s winemaking story. Sparked by a retirement project during the Covid-19 lockdown, the vineyard was born from the vision of Rob Hendry, owner of Maidenhead Tyres & Autocare and Marlow Tyres, who saw the opportunity to turn his passion into reality amidst the idyllic Chiltern Hills.

From its humble beginnings four years ago, Marlow Valley Vineyard has flourished into a fully functioning operation. This October marked a particularly exciting chapter: the vineyard’s first-ever grape harvest and pressing—a significant milestone that symbolises years of dedication and hard work.

From Vision to Reality: The First Harvest and Press

The day began with palpable excitement as the team—dogs in tow—prepared to transport their first harvest to Harrow & Hope, a neighbouring vineyard with whom they share a bond rooted in mutual respect and a love for organic English winemaking. Over 4.5 tonnes of grapes made the short journey along Buckinghamshire’s scenic country lanes, ready to be transformed into juice.

The camaraderie at Harrow & Hope was heartwarming, with their team offering guidance and recalling their own early days of winemaking. This sense of community added a special touch to the occasion, highlighting the shared commitment to elevating English wines to new heights.

A Day to Celebrate: Hard Work Bearing Fruit

The sight of the harvested grapes being poured into the press was both humbling and exhilarating. Over 4.5 hours, the team watched their labour of love become the vineyard’s very first juice. This achievement was a testament to the resilience and determination that had carried them through the challenges of establishing a vineyard in the notoriously unpredictable English climate.

While the pressing marked the culmination of one phase, it also heralded the beginning of an exciting new chapter. With the juice now on its journey to becoming wine, the team at Marlow Valley Vineyard is one step closer to sharing their passion with the local community and wine enthusiasts far and wide.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Marlow Valley Vineyard

As Marlow Valley Vineyard reflects on this milestone, there is immense gratitude for the unwavering support of friends, family, and the community. This first pressing is more than just a technical achievement—it’s a celebration of a shared dream coming to life.

The journey has only just begun, and there are many more milestones to look forward to. From the rolling hills of the Chilterns to wine glasses across the UK, the story of Marlow Valley Vineyard is one of passion, perseverance, and pride. Here’s to a bright future for Buckinghamshire’s newest gem in English winemaking.
